For Educators

Today’s Early Childhood Educator is more than a babysitter.  He/she has a basic knowledge of child development and child guidance, and knows how to work in partnership with families.  They set the stage for play and know how to observe children in order to discover their interests.  Owing to observation, educators are aware when skills emerge and a child’s knowledge surfaces. Through careful planning and guidance, the Early Childhood Professional prepares children to be life long learners. 

All educators that care for children outside of the child’s home must be approved by the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC).  Group and School-age staff must hold professional certification.  All educators must register annually with the department in accordance with EEC policies and procedures.  Family Child Care Assistants and Group and School age staff are also required to complete EEC’s online orientation.

Educator and Provider Support Partnerships (EPS)

Online Training for Teachers of Young English Language Learners The Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) has partnered with WIDA to offer online training modules for early educators who work with children who are English language learners, ages 2.5 to 5.5 years old.  WIDA is a national organization that advances academic language development and achievement for children and youth who are culturally and linguistically diverse through high quality standards, assessments, research, and professional learning for educators. The English language learner training modules provide opportunities for early educators to learn new instructional content and apply it to practice.  Access to the training modules is free and available online through May 31, 2018.  Please note that you will need to register when you visit the website.
