3 Dates Across the State – Early Literacy Conference

Note from EEC on participation:
Many questions have come in regarding the Professional Learning Community (PLC) commitment that we’d like to answer.  First, we anticipate that the PLCs will meet 2 times between the November and the end-of-year conference.  The meetings will be approximately 2 hours each though flexibility exists for each PLC to determine their meeting times, locations and formats.  We anticipate each participant will conduct or host one peer-to-peer site visit.  In addition, there is likely to be electronic communication (e.g., webinars, emails, list serve, etc.) to support the work of the final project/product that will be required of participants.  The meetings of the individual PLCs have not yet been set as we want the PLC facilitator and members to identify dates and formats that best work for the group.  The attached MOU (not required at time of application) outlines the expectations for this professional development opportunity.
Early Literacy Conference 2011 Save the Date
The Departments of Early Education and Care (EEC) and Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE) invite instructional leaders and community leaders to join us for a 7-month professional development opportunity focused on building and sustaining strong Birth to Grade 3 systems of services and supports for young children and their families.  This professional development opportunity will be kicked off by a regional conference (Boston, Worcester or Westfield) in November called, Brain Building and Early Literacy and Numeracy: Strategies and Supports for Young Children and will be followed by a 7 month professional learning community.
Instructional and community leaders who are interested in being part of this professional development opportunity will be eligible to apply using the Literacy Conference Registration Form.  For Boston you can also go on-line at <http://region6eps.bostonabcd.org/>  and complete the on-line application process.
Applications will be accepted beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2011.  Each regional professional development opportunity (kick-off conference plus the professional learning community) can accommodate up to 150 participants.  Slots will be filled based on the order of applications received as well as a review process that ensures a diverse representation of the mixed delivery system in Massachusetts.    A waitlist of participants will be kept in the event that an individual is unable to attend.
